Bringing a whole host of nature-based design to the heart of the countryside, Planted Country 2023 returns to Stourhead for its second edition with a high-calibre talks programme, workshops, and a botanical market.

Taking place from 9th – 11th June 2023, the zero-waste design event has built a name for its presentation of a curated selection of the UK’s leading environmentally focused brands in the picturesque west country landscape.

This year, there will be the opportunity to peruse the Botanical Market and Natural Living section, featuring design and lifestyle brands such as Another Country, Naturalmat, ReCork, Sedum Green Roof, and Solidwool.

A headline, nine-part talks programme titled ‘Cool Design, Sustainable Futures’ is set to explore how spaces, places, and systems can be designed to mitigate and protect against the threats of climate heating and biodiversity decline.

This year’s talks follow on from the success of last year’s ‘Save our Soil’ programme, and will again be hosted by world-leading biophilic design advisor Oliver Heath and Planted co-founder Sam Peters.

Together they will invite an impressive line-up of speakers onto the stage including leading thinkers from design, food production, farming, and environmentalism.

For example, Helen Brown of the Soil Association will join the talk ‘Taking the Heat out of Farming’, and Hugo Bugg from Harris Bugg Studios (winner of Best in Show at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show will discuss the benefits of biophilic design.

“It’s one of Planted’s core missions to inspire and educate people about the environment and hopefully reconnect people with nature and the natural world,” says Planted co-founder Sam Peters.

“I’m confident this year’s talks programme will help us deliver on that mission while bringing together important groups including farmers, landowners, and environmentalists. We are all invested in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss, and the only way to effect positive change is to talk, listen, and learn from each other.”

Alongside the Botanical Market and Natural Living areas, and the Planted Unearth talks stage, there will be a VERVE Festival pop-up hosting a programme of interactive nature-based wellness sessions – from guided meditations and nature walks to nutrition, breath work, and sustainable eating across the three-day event.

In keeping with the nature-focused theme, local and seasonal food and drink will be available, and there’s also the Kitchen Garden Stage hosting not-to-be-missed, free-to-attend workshops and demonstrations. You’ll be able to check out no-dig expert Charles Dowding cooking over fire, and take part in a fermentation workshop with Cult Jar.

Planted Country takes places from 9th – 11th June 2023 in Stourhead, Wiltshire, in partnership with the National Trust. The event is free to attend for National Trust members and children, and for non-members tickets are £10 in advance or £12 on the door.
