Recognising, encouraging and promoting outstanding wood design, craftsmanship and installation throughout the UK, The Wood Awards 2021’s deadline for entries will soon close on the 25th June 2021.

Conceived back in 1971, The Wood Awards: Excellence in British Architecture and Product Design has been championing excellence in craftsmanship, British architecture and product design for many years. And, with no entry fee, the competition is a wonderful opportunity for anyone involved in a UK-based wood project to submit and highlight their work. With an elite, independent judging panel on-hand, not only does the panel judge all submitted entries but also visit the selection of shortlisted entries in person. The awards are split into two main categories (Furniture & Product and Buildings) with a Gold Award also awarded for what the judges deem the winner of winners overall.

“Having been a judge for the last 17 years it is a great honour to be asked to chair the buildings panel. Despite restrictive regulatory and insurance challenges, wood has become an increasingly important construction material and it is now often the first choice for architects, designers, engineers and developers, offering lower carbon, biophilic, and regenerative solutions. As a consequence, the standard of entries for the Wood Awards has been rising year upon year and it is a great privilege to be able to assess, and learn from, the many exemplar projects being put forward for consideration.” Jim Greaves of Hopkins Architects, Chair of buildings judges

The carefully organised event is a not-for-profit competition and only occurs due to the collaborative industry sponsorship it receives from major sponsors (including American Hardwood Export Council, The Carpenters’ Company and Timber Trade Federation) and the likes of American Softwoods and TRADA.
