The design collaboration we weren’t expecting but love | Staub x Buster + Punch

Buster + Punch unveil a brand new collaboration with the most surprising of partners; classic kitchenware label Staub. As revealed at London Design Festival, the new line sees Staub’s classic cast ironware updated for contemporary cooking with Buster + Punch’s trademark metal detailing.

Beyond mastering the art of metalwork, Buster + Punch are the masters of surprise. Since launching back in 2013, the architectural hardware and metalwork label has made a name for itself with an unapologetic industrial identity and a creative vim that encourages consumers to always expect the unexpected.

Yet, somehow still, in its latest launch Buster + Punch have managed to shock us all with the most unlikely of collaborations. Joining forces with the French kitchenware brand that is Staub, the design duo have worked on a bijoux collection of cast iron cookware which is now available for pre-order.

The three piece suite sees the classic cast iron frying pan and cocotte (available in two sizes) from Staub given a bit of shine with bespoke Buster + Punch handles, which come in a choice of either solid steel or brass.

Weighty beyond belief – you’ll need both hands to get this frying pan up! – the handles feature Buster + Punch’s signature diamond cut-cross knurling for enhanced grip and control whilst cooking. And for those who already own one of the iconic Staub cocottes, the knurled T-bar handles are also available to buy separately so you can retrofit and give your model a new lease of life.

Despite it appearing as simply another case of opposites attract, there is in fact one thing that ties these two market leaders together; an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship.

Over the last fifty years Staub has secured its position as a kitchen classic with its black cast iron pots and pans handcrafted by skilled artisans in Alsace, France, “using generations-old techniques that ensure lasting performance.”

Meanwhile, in spite of a much smaller lifespan, Buster + Punch has quickly garnered a reputation for precise knurling and metalwork, which has made them a go-to for architects and interior designers alike.

In lieu of the new launch, Buster + Punch invited two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers and rapper Professor Green to “celebrate a cultural icon – the Full English.”

Using the revived classics, Sellers offers his own take on the breakfast favourite. Serving up in the very same Staub x Buster + Punch pans he cooked in, the chef proves these aren’t just pieces for the stove, they’re pieces to be shared.

As owner Massimo Buster Minale concludes, “it’s a collaboration that’s half French, but full English.” Attesting to this sentiment, a tea towel finishes off the new collection.

Prices for the cookware start from £199 and can be pre-ordered here.
