‘The design ethos behind Lucent is playful, analogue and sculptural – a distillation of the essential elements of form and function.’
Stellar Works, established in 2012, is a brand that brings together ideas, think: ‘East and West, heritage and modernity, craft and industry.’ Launched with an aim to ‘inspire a renaissance in Asian aesthetics, taking the forms, styles and motifs that have characterised Japanese design across the centuries and filtering them through the lens of the European tradition to create something new and timeless.’ Alongside this ethos, Stellar Works believes that sustainability is fundamental to good quality and timeless design, something we here at enki believe in too.
The design brand has just announced its collaboration with Copenhagen-based OEO Studio on the creation of its first lighting collection, Lucent. As a long-term partner of the brand (OEO Studio was part of the team that shaped Stellar Works brand and design philosophy when it launched back in 2012), it was a no-brainer for the brand’s Creative Directors, Lyndon Neri and Rosanna Hu to commission the studio to design and create the new series of lights.
In terms of the brief, it was of course important for OEO Studio to mirror the ethos and spirit of Stellar Works: where Asian design influences meet effortlessly with a more timeless, international style that will work across both consumer and contract environments. Within the collection you’ll discover everything from a desk lamp, to floor lamp and small and larger pendants. The soft, comforting glow of Lucent’s oval bulb will instantly entrance, while the designs’ sculpted base and contemporary lines bring a dynamic, mechanical composition to the table too. OEO Studio took inspiration from analogue experiences when designing Lucent. For instance, the ritual of playing vinyl on a record player, or taking photo’s with a camera.
“We feel it sits really well within the wider collection of Stellar Works, bridging the gap between the vintage and new collections, with a nod to the analogue but a contemporary aesthetic. Lucent can standalone as a piece of design or be adopted within the context of the wider Stellar Works universe for commercial or consumer interiors.” Thomas Lykke, Head of Design and Founder of OEO Studio
The Stellar Works x OEO Studio Lucent collection is available from May 2019.
