Nest.co.uk | Welcomes Nikari

If it’s a beautifully produced, sustainable piece of wooden designer furniture you’re after this winter, prepare to head over to Nest for Nikari has just landed…

Founded in 1967 by master cabinet maker and designer, Kari Virtanen – who, might we add, has collaborated with some of Finland’s greatest modern architects and contemporary designers including Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck – the brand focuses on the beauty and ecological benefits of wood. Having concentrated on the materials for many decades, the brand has extensive knowledge when it comes to Finnish wood and wooden treatments materials including oils, waxes and soaps.

The brand’s studio and workshop is situated in Fiskars village in south-west Finland in – intriguingly – the oldest machinery workshop in the country. Not only this, but you’ll be delighted to know that the vast majority of the wood used by Nikari is sourced from a nearby sawmill whose timber is gathered from local forests and looked after with the same principles of sustainability and biodiversity that Nikari stands by.
