Want the whole family to embrace a little architecture? The London Festival of Architecture 2018 has a whole range of exciting activities for all ages to get involved with. We’ve cherry picked some of our favourites…
#1 The Crystal: Saturday summer special for June
When: 9th, 16th & 30th June
Where: The Crystal
The Crystal, one of the world’s greenest buildings with a truly unique design is running free drop-in family sessions for visitors every Saturday through June. During these sessions visitors can add their thoughts and ideas for the future to their identity wall. Discover two immersive cinema experiences, a collection of games, touch screens, and interactive challenges and quizzes. The children will love jumping on kinetic squares to power on the lights, try and run a city sustainable for 40 years or even step into the future in the year 2050 with a visit to London, New York or Copenhagen. #2 Giant Dolls’ House Installation in The Department Store, Brixton – Workshop
When: 16th June 12-4pm
Where: Downstairs at The Department Store
Become part of the Giant Doll’s House Community to raise money for Shelter! The drop-in workshop (run by Lala Thorpe from Artescape) welcomes the whole family to bring along a shoebox and make a dolls’ house out of it to add to the installation. There are no rules – the workshop is all about ‘just making’. The event is free but asks for a contribution to the Housing and Homelessness Charity, Shelter. Discover more information about it here.
#3 London Reimagined
When: 16th June, 10am – 4om
Where: Tower Bridge
At London Reimagined the children will get the chance to design and create a new London skyline with their own light up building! This activity is drop-in with free admission. Families of all ages are welcome, but the event is most suitable for children aged 6-10. Want to learn more? Click here.
#4 Bartlett Summer Show Family Day
When: 23rd June, 11am – 3pm
Where: The Bartlett School of Architecture
In celebration of the launch of The Bartlett’s Summer Show 2018, they’re holding a fabulous Family Day, an ideal way to get involved and attend an array of playful workshops taking place across the school. Delight in workshops led by artists, designers and creatives for children, young people and their families to enjoy and take part in. Click here for more information.
#5 RAW Summer Celebrations 2018
When: 23rd June, 11am – 2pm
Where: Royal Albert Wharf
The Royal Albert Wharf is in the early days of building an identity as the capital’s newest cultural hub. A home to creative businesses, artists and architects, the neighbourhood is throwing an amazing selection of activities during the festival, including:
– Food by Lockside Kitchen
– Drinks available in RAW LABS
– Live music from 12pm
– Open studios by Bow Arts
– Buyers workshops and open houses
