1. ReCinder is “decarbonising the plate”

Shifting the focus from where our food has come from to the origins of what it’s served on, ReCinder is an innovative collection of everyday tableware made from ceramic waste. Designed by Rosy Napper in collaboration with The Home of Sustainable Things, the “ultra-local and thoughtfully designed” series tackles a major waste issue while offering a functional and design-led solution.

The ceramic waste (with very limited recycling abilities) is sourced from academic institutions and local producers across London, and for every finished plate, approximately 650 grams of waste is diverted from landfill. But the collection’s eco-credentials don’t stop there. ReCinder plates are also finished with a bespoke glaze made up of industrial waste, reducing the ecological and social costs of extracting raw materials.

2. Naturalmat introduces its Bed for Life Initiative™

The Dartmouth bed, from £2,200 for a king size

Expanding on its Mattress for Life Initiative™ (allowing customers to recycle, refurbish or donate their Naturalmat mattress) introduced in 2022, Naturalmat is boosting circularity even further as it announces its Bed for Life Initiative™, launching this July.

This sustainable service allows owners to “refresh their existing Naturalmat bed or headboard,” without having to purchase a new style. When opting to refurbish, your bed undergoes a meticulous quality check where compressed fillings can be replaced to get it feeling back to brand new. But if you are after a new bed altogether, by donating it back to Naturalmat you’ll sleep soundly knowing it has been recycled or donated through the brand’s charity network.

3. GOODLAND unveils the Group Wood Burning Hot Tub

New in from Canadian design studio GOODLAND is the Group Wood Burning Hot Tub – “a refined soaking experience built for comfort, presence and togetherness.”

In its bid to advocate for the slow life and finding a moment of pause in the outdoors, the brand has added to its portfolio of lifestyle objects with a tub that’s been resized to to comfortably seat four people. Operating on an oversized fire-powered stove, the tub efficiently heats up in no more than a few hours (all you need is a water source, firewood and a little patience). Built with the environment in mind, it features locally-sourced and recyclable materials including a marine-grade aluminium and hand-sanded western red cedar selected for longevity.

5. Pit-to-table transforms agricultural waste into table tops

A story of design and heritage, Cyprus-born brand Pit-to-table is sweeping up the organic waste on the island and turning discarded olive pits into crafted table tops. Named Pit-board, the making process takes its cues from olive oil producers and a different recipe is developed for each batch; where a unique blend of available materials means no two boards are the same, giving each its own character.

Available in a natural, soft white or charcoal tone, Pit-board is a contemporary addition to any interior and can be used for not only table tops, but counter tops, shelving, cabinetry, retail displays and so much more. Supporting sustainable furniture production, Pit-board also offers modular options designed for disassembly.
