Enki’s Eco Edit: August 2024 | The eco-friendly news you can use

Caravane’s weather-resistant Anatole outdoor cushion brightens up any space. We explore more of the collection in this Eco Edit

Welcome back to enki’s Eco Edit: August 2024, which brings you sustainable lifestyle news every month. Our round-up includes our curated selection of eco-friendly brands, shopping ideas, and places to visit.

This month we explore an opportunity to learn more about sustainable material innovation with Surface Matters, handcrafted tableware additions fit for late summer get-togethers, a mineral sunscreen for outdoor pursuits and more.

1. Building sustainable material knowledge with Surface Matters

Kicking off their Material Sessions as part of LDF next month, Surface Matters invites architects, designers and makers to book into a free session in their Hackney studio (or online) to build on their sustainable material expertise.

Material choices within a design project hold the power to improve energy efficiency, health and wellbeing, environmental impacts and provide long term benefits.

Learning all about recycled surface materials, each informal session is 45 minutes long, and can be tailored to your particular practice. General topics covered include where materials are made, where they can be used and how they contribute to sustainable certifications.

Visit surfacematter.co.uk to book a session now.

2. The Outdoor Collection from Caravane

If, like us, you revel in the satisfaction that comes from a very aesthetically pleasing summer tablescape, then let us turn your eye to the vibrantly coloured curation of Caravane’s outdoor collection.

There’s just something about selecting the treasures to decorate your table. How they interact with one another, the playful combinations of shapes and colours, each with their own craft story. And every piece from Caravane celebrates its origins of design from makers all over the world. Our favourite pick from the collection is the ARYO tablecloth, woven and block-printed by artisans in India, making every single piece unique.
