Duravit’s Aurena series combines aesthetic harmony with practicality | A golden ratio bathroom

Duravit unveils a bathroom collection that boasts precise proportions and contours crafted for all kinds of modern bathrooms in residential and commercial buildings. Designed by architect Antonio Citterio, the Aurena series celebrates the simplicity of good design by following the golden ratio. “The idea was to structure surfaces and create a sense of order that positively influences the quality of the overall room,” says Antonio Citterio.

Designing for longevity with an elegance that will never go out of style, the Aurena series has the full bathroom suite covered. From washing area solutions, innovative vanity tops and units, to bath tubs and toilets, each with sleek finishes to elevate your soak space.

Washing area solutions with innovative vanity tops

Antonio Citterio’s design process began with the surfaces of the washing area. And it’s here where the architect prioritised practicality. With the aim to achieve perfectly proportioned ceramic surfaces equipped with savvy storage, the design features integrated dividers for bathroom essentials. For the basin, the architect opted for a compact size in order to create a larger vanity unit. Here the basin can be installed in the ceramic console, or combined with an above-counter ceramic or glass basin.

The console is constructed from an aluminium profile frame with a stainless steel finish, uniting it with the vanity unit. Along with a projection on one side for the subtle addition of a towel holder. Citterio’s approach to design was to give “straightforward answers to reality,” providing the essential characteristics of a wash area, whilst ensuring they blend together seamlessly.

Vanity units that can be individually combined

Furniture in the Aurena series was an integral part of the design, and it’s here where artisanal production techniques can be admired. A shelving unit made entirely of aluminium with an inlaid mesh base provides an open storage space, complimented by a centrally placed element with two drawers on the double washstand. The range also includes a furniture unit with two drawers, which can be mounted in a floating position on the wall, or placed on a metal frame with elegant legs.

Materials that make an impact

Before designing the furniture, Antonio Citterio considered the effect each object would have on the whole room. The sophisticated appeal of the Aurena series is showcased through its balanced colour and material palette. Black and white ceramic offerings meet brushed stainless steel and a range of high-quality furniture finishes. These include the super-matt carcus colours, available in white, taupe or graphite.

Textured wooden surfaces unite a welcoming warmth, while the contrasting white marble effect ceramic panels and black lacquered glass provide a classic touch to a timeless design. Every ceramic surface in the Aurena collection is finished with Duravit’s HygieneGlaze®Plus.

Uniformity in the bathroom

The Aurena series utilises shape and contour to create a heavenly synchronisation within the bathroom. Soft curves and lines echo through the collection, with the wall-standing variant bathtub featuring a storage compartment similar to the wash area, forming a connection between the organically shaped bath and wall.

The geometry of the bathtub echoes the oval mirror within Aurena, fitted with a hidden white illumination strip behind the frame. Duravit’s suggests pairing with the Wave faucet in brushed stainless steel to compliment the finishes of the furniture. As well as the addition of detailed accessories such as a towel ring or brush holder from the Starck T collection to complete a luxurious bathroom suite.
