From 8th-11th June 2023, Design Shanghai will be bringing a line-up of global brands and designers to China in celebration of its 10th anniversary, and to share new ideas from both the world’s rising stars and industry tastemakers.
At this ever-growing and evolving design event, more than 600 local and international brands from 40 countries and regions will come together to form a strong line-up that will inspire all visitors. The Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre (SWEECC) location is set to attract architects, interior designs, global industry leaders, and design enthusiasts alike, and will also host a dynamic cultural programme unique to the city.
“This year’s edition of Design Shanghai hopes to enhance the audience’s perspective through exploring the ‘re-creation’ of design,” says Zhuo Tan, Managing Director of Clarion Events Shanghai Limited.
“For this momentous 10th anniversary we will be comprehensively upgrading the scale and content at the event, with exemplary design showcased from across the world.”

Kohler Exquisite x Design Shanghai Forum
Established as one of the leading global platforms for design thought leadership, the Kohler Exquisite x Design Shanghai Forum presents one of the most comprehensive seminar programmes in Asia. It seeks to address global issues and design solutions, considering the role of interior design and architecture in our everyday lives and how this impacts our health and wellbeing.
This year’s theme, titled ’Beyond Sustainability lies Re-Creative Design’, is set to cover some important and interesting conversations around the future. A range of presentations and talks will cover how we can engage with nature in a more authentic manner, considering the materials we use and how our spaces are created, and discussing how artificial intelligence and the Metaverse have set out whole new parameters for us to live by.
Expect talks from visionary creator Ross Lovegrove, designers Adam Brinkworth and Frank Chou, architect Stefano Piontini, and Satoshi Ohashi, Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, amongst many others.
Design Shanghai’s Feature area
The dedicated Feature space will put a spotlight on the best up-and-coming designers and craftsmanship. In total, there will be over 100 Chinese independent design studios all handpicked from the rising design community in China.
Always a popular part of the exhibition, this year’s TALENTS area which will be curated by designer Frank Chou, will feature 20 groups of young and emerging designers in China, and Rong will showcase 28 designers who are experimenting with the deconstruction of weaving in Chinese traditional handicrafts.
Also, be sure to look out for Design Street (pictured below), a brand-new feature for this year, which is a curated design platform by Design Burger. This will involve a collection of innovative work from a selection of the leading design studios – not to be missed!
